Loan App Checker: Is Your Loan App Listed with RBI?
Type the name of a loan app to see whether it appears in RBI’s public directory of Digital Lending Apps, which RBI-regulated lender is behind it, and how to verify it before you share any documents.
How to read a result: RBI’s directory is filled in by the regulated lenders themselves, and RBI publishes it without validating each entry. A listing shows which lender says it deploys the app. It is not an RBI approval and not a safety guarantee. Always confirm that the lender named inside the app and in the loan agreement matches the lender shown here.
What each result means
| Result | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Listed in RBI’s directory | The app name appears in RBI’s Digital Lending Apps directory against one or more regulated lenders. | Match the lender name in the app, Key Fact Statement and loan agreement with the lender shown. Review APR, fees and repayment terms. |
| Not found | No match in the directory data used on this page. This does not prove fraud; the name may be spelled differently or the app may not be a lending app. | Find the lender’s legal name inside the app, then check it in RBI’s NBFC list. Do not share KYC documents or pay any upfront fee until you can verify it. |
Five red flags of a risky loan app
- No lender named. The app does not clearly show which bank or NBFC gives the loan.
- Upfront fees. It asks you to pay a “processing” or “insurance” amount by UPI before disbursal.
- Installed from outside the app store. The app comes as an APK link on WhatsApp, Telegram or SMS.
- Too many permissions. It asks for your contacts, photos or files, which a loan does not need.
- Pressure to decide. Countdown timers or threats push you to accept before reading the terms.
Already shared documents or paid money?
- Stop paying and stop responding to threats. Keep screenshots, call logs and payment receipts.
- Uninstall the app and remove its permissions. Change your banking and email passwords.
- Report the fraud at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. Inform your bank if money left your account.
- Report the entity to RBI through RBI Sachet.
- Check your credit report for loans you did not take.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check whether a loan app is RBI registered?
Search the app name above, or open RBI’s public directory of Digital Lending Apps. Then check the lender’s name in RBI’s list of registered NBFCs, or confirm that it is a bank. The lender named in the app and in your loan agreement should match.
Does being in RBI’s directory mean RBI has approved the app?
No. RBI states that the directory contains details reported by regulated entities and that it does not validate each entry. Treat a listing as a starting point for your own checks.
What if my app is not found here?
Try the exact name shown in the app store, or search for the lender’s name instead. If you still find nothing, look for the lender’s legal name inside the app and verify it in RBI’s NBFC list before sharing documents or paying anything.
Is an app safe just because it is on Google Play?
Not by itself. Google Play requires personal-loan apps in India to declare their regulated lending partner, but you should still check the lender, the terms and the permissions requested.
Where can I report a fake loan app or harassment?
You can report cyber fraud at cybercrime.gov.in or on helpline 1930, and report unauthorised lending entities to RBI through the Sachet portal. You can also complain to the lender’s grievance officer named in the app.
